Leybourne Lakes are a series of flooded gravel workings and consists of four large lakes, known as Road & Island Lake, Railway Lake, Lake No. 2 and Lake No. 3. Leybourne Lakes are near Junction 4 of the M20 near Maidstone, Kent. The maximum depth, which varies with rainfall, is around 10 metres. The lakes have a silty bottom composition. There are several artificial underwater features such as cars and boats. Underwater platforms are in situ for training skills. The lakes are used by Mid Kent Fisheries and Leybourne Lake Water Sports for boating and windsurfing.

East Lake

The East Lake is deeper of the two diving lakes and contains more underwater features. It is accessible by the back gate. They key can be signed out from the shop. Shore cover is required to dive the East Lake.

OS map reference is TQ704602.

The East Lake has several attractions to dive around:

  • Several platforms
  • Two small boats (one called The Thistlegorm)
  • A few cars (including a BMW and VW Polo)
  • Some large pike

West Lake

The West Lake has more weeds and as in generally shallower, unless you venture far to the South East corner. An SMB is required to dive the West Lake.

The West Lake contains:

  • Two training platforms
  • Some small boats
  • A car
  • A memorial
  • A strange dolphin
