Items that are found on UK Wrecks or terratorial waters below the high water mark remain the property of the ship owner. There is a legal requirement to declare such finds to the Receiver of Wreck. Some wrecks have additional laws protecting them or forbidding/restricting diving access. Many wrecks are important archeological sites containing irreplaceable clues to history.
Responsible diving should encompass the Respect Our Wrecks campaign.
